Why Middle Age Women Feel Lost In Life

Why Middle Age Women Feel Lost In Life

It's not uncommon for middle-aged women to feel a sense of loss or confusion about their place in the world. After all, the expectations and roles placed upon us as women are constantly shifting, and it can be hard to keep up, let me tell you!

Women {and Mothers} spend so much of their lives juggling multiple responsibilities, like raising children, caring for elderly parents, and working outside the home. It's easy to lose sight of our own wants and needs when we're busy taking care of everyone else. We often put ourselves last. And that might be necessary for a short time but definitely not for the long haul.

We can also lack fulfillment in our personal or professional lives. Maybe we've reached a point where we realise that our current career isn't bringing us the satisfaction it once did, or perhaps we feel unfulfilled in our relationships. It's natural to question if this is all there is to life and wonder what we're missing out on. I don't know about you but I signed up for a career that I didn't end up resonating with and stayed in it waaaay to long.

All of this leads to a feeling of being lost if it goes on for too long, which it so often does.

So what on earth do we do? First, it's important to take some time for ourselves. This could mean setting aside a few hours a week to pursue a hobby or activity that brings us joy, or simply taking a moment to sit and reflect on what it is we truly want out of life. I like to write a list of all the things I enjoy doing. From a warm cup of tea to watching a sunset, to holidaying on a Greek Island. {Haven't done it but plan to!}  Nothing is too small to add to this list.

It's also important to reach out for support. This could be in the form of therapy, talking to a trusted friend or family member, or joining a support group. It can be helpful to connect with others who may be going through similar experiences and can offer guidance and encouragement. Just make sure you are there to lift each other up. We are a product of our environment, so make your environment inspiring.

When you are on this path of discovery it is normal to efff up.  Making mistakes is all part and parcel of trying new things. We are all human, and it's natural to feel uncertain about the future. Embracing this uncertainty and being open to trying new things can lead to growth and personal development. My favourite saying is get uncomfortable being uncomfortable. So go try that dance class you've been afraid of!

So, to all the middle-aged {and non middle-aged women if that's you} out there feeling a little lost, remember that it's never too late to take control of your life, rediscover what you love and create a new path. You are strong, capable, and deserving of happiness. Embrace your inner adventurer and see where it takes you! And let me know about all of your adventures!
